Hillberry 2 Saves the Fall Music Scene

When the fall festival, Phases of the Moon, was cancelled, Jon Walker was quick to react. The proud owner of a beautiful 160-acre farm in Eureka Springs, AR, Walker has been working tirelessly for the past month to create a replacement event. Hillberry 2 : The Harvest Moon Festival, will be held on his land this month. As the organizer of other festivals such as Highberry, Byrd Fest, and Funkberry, Walker said that planning the new fall festival was an immediate reaction. Teaming up with Deadhead Productions, this music filled extravaganza will take place October 16-18th.

Walker said he wanted to keep this festival as a somewhat intimate gathering of bluegrass enthusiasts, and will be capping ticket sales at 4,000 people. The location of the event, "The Farm," boasts of beautiful 360 degree panoramic views and backs up to the Mark Twain National Forest. With Beaver Lake, Table Rock Lake, and the White River within five miles of the venue-land, nature lovers will thrive.

After announcing their intentions for a stand-in fall festival, Walker said he was swamped with interest from musicians. “I had so many bands to pick from, to be quite honest. It was a really cool experience, to have so many great acts that wanted to play.” The final, handpicked lineup includes bluegrass greats such as Dirtfoot, Leftover Salmon, Lettuce, Mountain Sprout, and Andy Frasco.

Keeping in line with the intimate intentions of the event, there will be one music stage, allowing festival goers the opportunity to catch all performances with ease. After dark each night a community inspired “campfire set” will feature artists like Handmade Moments.

Apart from musical performances, participants will also be offered the chance to enjoy fire spinning and belly dancing acts, live painting, and evening film screenings. Also coloring the festival's jam-packed schedule lineup, are paper making tutorials, group tye dying, yoga, lawn Twister, and mindful yoga classes.

Hillberry goers can take advantage of early arrival camping starting Thursday night. Live music will ensue Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

As support for the event has been extremely high, festival producers are near certain tickets will sell out. With so much interest, Walker said he already has plans for turning this fall festival into an annual event. “I think there’s so much good, positive energy behind it. It’s definitely going to happen next year.”
